Media Arts & Production Alumni Screening Event  

The Media Arts & Production Network is holding its first alumni bash, with MAP alumni and final year students invited to come along and share a drink to toast their successes.

UTS graduate Kathy Drayton (director) and Anna Cranney (editor) will screen their multi-award winning documentary about photographer Carol Jerrems, Girl in a Mirror. Wobbegong,  a short drama directed by graduate Owen Trevor and produced by Lucas Jenner, will also screen.

The screenings will be followed by a short Q & A session and drinks.

Media Arts & Production Program Director and event organiser, Gillian Leahy, hopes this will become a regular six-monthly occasion and encourages alumni to make suggestions for upcoming events and screenings. Email Gillian.Leahy@uts.edu.au with your ideas.

Bargain Movie Night to Raise Money for the Big Issue Foundation  

The Big Issue invites you to an advance screening of this year's Sundance Film Festival Audience Award for World Cinema - Once.

Tickets are a bargain at just $10.00, with all proceeds going to the Big Issue Foundation.

A Little Extra PR Internship  

A Little Extra is a busy PR agency based on Sydney's northern beaches. They're searching for a junior consultant to assist 1-2 days per week commencing mid September.

Ideally you will have a friendly phone manner, computer skills and a passion for writing. A Little Extra represents varied clients on a PR level including publishing, homewares, toys and health firms.

UTS Human Rights Awards 07  

This year for the first time ever the UTS Human Rights Awards invites students to submit an audio/visual project in which Human Rights or Social Justice themes are explored. Its could be a documentary, drama, website, animation, or radio / sound piece - it's up to you!

Your work should be up to five minutes in length and explore Human Rights issues within UTS, Australia or the international community.

Student award recipients will receive $500.00.

Nominations must be received by 5.00pm Monday 24 September 2007.

Outstanding contributions will receive recognition at the Human Rights Awards ceremony on 18 October 2007 between 3.00pm and 5.00pm.

Sink Your Teeth into a Meat & Livestock Internship  

Meat & Livestock Australia are currently offering an internship in their corporate communications team.

Interests / strengths candidates should have:

  • Excellent written communication skills and a good eye for detail
  • Proof-reading / sub-editing
  • Understands the principles of effective online writing and web usability
  • Excellent interpersonal and organisational skills
  • Demonstrates initiative and problem-solving skills

Range of activities the intern can hope to be involved in:

  • Content management - MLA corporate website: write / check / edit content submitted for approval (ensure consistent messaging that reflects the MLA brand and appropriate style for an inline audience)
  • CMS / Campaign Master (email / fax marketing tool): draft content and also act as the first point of call for other users' queries (escalate to Online Communications Manager or IT when required)
  • Communications support: Support all communications channels including media, events and publications in the drafting of materials
  • Other tasks as required

Preferred timings for the placement:

  • August - December
  • 3 days per week (preferably Wednesday, Thursday, Friday)

Iremonger Awards $10,000 Plus Guaranteed Publication  

Do you have a great idea for a non-fiction book? One that will contribute to public debate on a contemporary Australian political, social or cultural issue? Then you should know about the Iremonger Award, sponsored by Allen & Unwin.

The winning entry will receive a cash prize of $10,000.00, guaranteed publication, royalties on book sales and editorial support to develop the proposal into a finished manuscript.

Venture to Shangri-La for a Good Cause  

Venture There will host the inaugral Black & White Charity Ball at the Shangri-La Hotel, with all proceeds going to the Nepal Rural Development Project to help more than 300 orphaned children gain much needed access to health care and education.

The ticket price includes entertainment, pre-dinner drinks, three-course meal and unlimited wine, beer and soft drinks.

Where: Shangri-La Hotel, Sydney
